Deepseek sounds like a company with good work-life balance. I was surprised to see a relaxed culture. The two quotes that I liked were about how, if a company seeks profit above all else, at least in the context of the AI labs, then they've already kind of lost and would make more problems for themselves. I would add that they would also make more problems for the people, and the planet.
I also like how he maintained that this is really just an ordinary group of people that have done something extraordinary. There's too strong of a tendency to label people as geniuses if they've done something great. Often times, I think this can be be an excuse for other people to avoid asking themselves why they haven't done something great.
When people work together and enjoy it, they can accomplish a lot. There's a lot that Western companies can learn from them.
Yes, agreed. Also, we hear a lot from Western tech moguls about how AI will bring prosperity and relaxation for all mankind, but we aren’t seeing anything. It’s a mispromised future, not the present.
